This canoe is easy to build using the Novelite Flyweight Building System. It is a tough and sturdy construction. The inventor trialed it by paddling 100 miles on the Brisbane River, Australia, without any problems (to the canoe, that is!), carrying his camping equipment on board.
The hull is fibreglass, while the joints and gunwhale are made of wood. This produces a light-weight but strong canoe, suitable for paddling on smooth water.
The idea is to use public transport to get as far up river as possible and then paddle down river with the current (while avoiding rapids). When you reach your destination, the canoe can be packed into the backpack, allowing you to catch public transport and return home.
It only takes 2 minutes to put the sections together when you arrive. No tools are required! This makes the Backpack Canoe ideal for fishing in those out-of-the-way places.
You can even fit this canoe into most car boots or carry it on a bicycle!
